My First Trip Away!
The last 10 days have been a little more than crazy for me. It started with leaving William for the first time. I’m not the best planner and I committed to being away from him for the first time for 3 nights. I know a lot of moms leave for a girls night at first or dinner without the baby, but I’m queen of thinking I’m capable of anything and thought I could jump in the deep end and leave my boys for a long weekend.
Long story short (because I’m too tired to go into great detail), I survived it. Without service 2 of the days and being totally off the grid in another state.
Yes, I was in beautiful Lake Powell and yes, I had the honor of photographing an amazing wedding, and yes I was with a few girlfriends, and yes, Justin Timberlake was on the same lake as me for 1 of the days, but there is nothing like being away from your baby for the first time.
Back home Will, Grandma Wendy and Auntie Sissy (aka my sister) were at home taking care of William, who isn't that hard of a baby these days, but the more hands and new faces the better! It turns out they did fine and had fun without me- who knew?! No major meltdowns (unless they are lying to me, which is ok) and no major accidents. Turns out, William is a big fan of boys weekend with his dad and he sleeps better when I’m gone!
Once I got back into service and knew everyone was alive and well, I still couldn't help but sit on the plane and cry as we took off from Arizona back to Washington. The thought alone of hugging my baby in a matter of hours was too much happiness to handle in that moment.
Overall, would I do it again? Would I tell a 1st time mama to leave her baby for 3 nights with no service for the first time, probably not. However, I do feel like I’ve accomplished the hardest part by leaving overnight and now I feel ready to venture to a more simple, yet needed date night with my husband and a girls weekend in the near future doesn’t seem so bad now either.
I’ll never get a chance to go to Lake Powell with the group I went with and get to photograph a wedding there, so this trip was a must. I can't wait to share the photos with you guys, it was breathtaking!
