The Tomlin's Say I Do!

Oh my goodness! This weddddingggg (insert heart shaped eyes) was everything.

Let’s rewind a little. Shannon is the mother of Sydney. Sydney and I are thick as thieves and I couldn’t do life without her! Since I was 19 I would go in and out of Shannon’s home, probably without even knocking cause that’s how teenagers do things- we run the world, right? What are manners??! Anyway,I’ve had some of the best times of my life under Shannon’s roof just spending time in her home, with her family.

So, you can imagine how exciting it was for for Shannon and her fiance Joel to hire me as their wedding photographer! Shannon & Joel had around 50 people board house boats and head out to Lake Powell for 5 days. Family, friends, you name it. It wasn’t an easy event to plan. Who here has rented tables and chairs for a wedding and taken them 20+ miles deep on a lake to set up in-between canyons? No one?! That’s what I assumed :)

With the busy season of actual wedding planning behind them we gathered on the boats to head off to the actual wedding! With their children and grandchildren in tow they were sailing away- quite literally to finally get married!

The location was breath taking and even with a sand storm and some rain right before the first look, everything turned out to be a success and the wind died down in time to set off fireworks, lanterns and the kids- along with most adults also got their chance to light a few sparklers!

I don’t think I will often find myself taking photos of a wedding, going to put my equipment away, changing into a bathing suit and be floating in the middle of a lake with fireworks and stars above me within the same 10 minutes. (I also had some close calls with bats while floating on the lake, but that’s a story for another day).

Thanks to Shannon and Joel for bringing us together to celebrate your love. Not only was it a great time, but it taught me something about booking weddings. I learned pretty quickly that if photographing people I care about I need to either learn how to take photos while crying or learn how to not cry period, 2 things I am still learning about the business!
